Money Matters
Originally presented in 2024, this lecture series is back to help us transform our financial future! Too often, busy veterinary professionals are left unsure and confused on how to make good financial decisions regarding their budget, savings, and debt payoff. Dr. Grace Kim and certified Life Coach Julie Squires will lead us through a systematic, thoughtful approach to money. It’s more than just crunching numbers and spreadsheets - this course helps reframe our thoughts on financial burdens by inviting self-compassion and personal goals to the party. Grace Kim
DVM, AFC, CSLP
Grace Kim, DVM, AFC®, CSLP® is a financial wellness coach and educator for veterinary professionals who want to stress less and find more joy with their money without feeling overwhelmed in the process. She is a strong proponent of financial literacy, financial wellbeing, and financial empowerment for all veterinary professionals.
From Dr. Kim:
“When graduating from veterinary school with six-figure student loan debt and very little financial literacy, it was easy to ignore money. As long as the bills were getting paid and I wasn't going (further) into debt (thanks, six-figure student loans!), I figured I was doing okay.
Fast forward to getting married, having children, owning a home, dealing with one too many unexpected expenses… All of a sudden it wasn't so easy to ignore money. I started asking questions like:
How do we pay off our student loans faster?
Where is all of our money going?
Can we afford (fill in the blank)?
Are we on track for retirement?
Were we being responsible with our hard-earned money?
These seemed like such easy, basic questions, but I couldn't find anyone who could answer them (without trying to get me to buy more insurance products or manage our assets). So I decided to start with the basics.
Then surprisingly, I actually started LIKING personal finance. It got to a point where I wanted to share this much needed, valuable information with my veterinary colleagues so that they don't have to make the same mistakes I did. So I decided to become a financial coach and educator as an Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC®).”
What is a Financial Counselor? Dr. Kim is an Accredited Financial Counselor - not a financial planner! This means her goal is education. She’ll help us improve our beliefs about money, strategies for saving, and confidence in setting budgets and managing debt. She does not sell investments, insurance policies, or other financial products. She’ll give us the tools and confidence needed to manage our own finances.
As a veterinarian who found herself completely bewildered by the idea of managing her own finances after graduation, she set out to become the expert - and to train others to do the same! Learn more about Dr. Kim and her mission at Richer Life DVM.

Julie Squires
BA, CCFS, CLC
Now in our 7th year of collaboration, Julie Squires has become a household name around IntroVet! Her cheer, optimism, and open-heartedness are an inspiration, and we can’t wait to see what she can teach us about managing our money mindsets.
Julie Squires is a Certified Compassion Fatigue Specialist and Certified Life Coach who brings a unique perspective and approach to support the sustained energy and passion of those exposed to the highly stressful and traumatic environments of veterinary medicine.
Julie has over twenty-five years of experience working within veterinary practice as well as within the industry developing and executing trainings and workshops. She is a CCFS through the Traumatology Institute.
Her company, Rekindle LLC, offers on-site seminars, webinars, Living A Life You Love group (a group coaching program for women veterinarians), and private 1:1 coaching and is the result of the need Julie saw to help those that work with animals maintain their wellbeing and mental health. Julie lives in New York’s Hudson Valley with her husband John, dogs Mabel & Archie, and Gregg & Duane, their two cats.
