COURSE DESCRIPTION

Balancing Behavior: Modify, Medicate, and Manifest

We’ve brought back the attitude experts from our 2024 Behavior-Palooza conference for our biggest certificate program yet! In this 4-part video series, board-certified behaviorists, Drs. Learn and Pike give us new perspectives on understanding the what’s and why’s of pet behavior.

First, lay the groundwork for approaching any behavior using “the six M’s” of care. We’ll spend time unpacking pet body language, behavior modification techniques, and ruling out medical contributors that exacerbate behavioral disorders. From puppy socialization to cognitive decline, we’ll create solid foundations for recognizing and modifying unwanted patterns, and tailor effective therapy protocols to each case. Lastly, get specific solutions for some of the most common client complaints: noise phobias, separation anxiety, house-soiling, and more!

Through this IntroVet Certificate Program, you’ll earn 15.5 hours of RACE Approved CE. Upon successfully passing the final assessment (quiz), you’ll receive an instantly downloadable CE Certificate, as well as a professional Certificate for display in your hospital.

Your Display Certificate will be mailed within 30 days following completion of the program and passage of each assessment.

PART 1: Three Behavior Lessons You’ll Use Every Day
(3 videos, 3.5 credit hours)

In this series, we will build important foundations to begin treating any behavior problem. Viewers will review dog and cat body language to understand what patients are feeling and prevent in-clinic escalation. Using the 6 M’s, viewers will also learn cooperative care techniques that owners can implement at home.

Estimated time to complete 3.5 to 4 hours

PART 2: When Behavioral Problems are Actually Medical Problems
(3 videos, 3.5 credit hours)

Our next session dissects the connection between health and behavior to understand the why’s behind “bad” behavior. Viewers will discuss how to definitively rule-out medical concerns as a contributing factor to behavior, especially diagnosing and treating pain and its consequences.

Estimated time to complete 3 to 3.5 hours

PART 3: Pharmaceutical Interventions
(4 videos, 3.5 credit hours)

This series of lectures reviews medication protocols for both short-term and long-term management, with a focus on the use of pre-visit pharmaceuticals. Viewers will become familiar with the many options available - including proven over-the-counter nutraceuticals - and understand what medications to use for desired outcomes. Viewers will also learn low-stress handling methods to improve the patient experience. We finish with a conversation on connecting with clients and establishing the importance of behavioral therapies.

Estimated time to complete 3.5 to 4 hours

PART 4: Treating the Classics | 5 videos, 5 hours
(5 videos, 5 credit hours)

We wrap up the course with lectures focused on several of the most common behavioral concerns we encounter. Viewers will be able to spot abnormal social development in puppies, address feline house-soiling, and manage cognitive dysfunction in aging pets. Viewers will also better understand the connections between general anxiety, noise aversion, and separation anxiety.

Estimated time to complete 5 to 5.5 hours
