Catching the primary joint disorder that later develops into canine osteoarthritis is the best intervention to reduce maladaptive pain and preserve mobility as dogs age. Join Dr. Shaw in performing orthopedic, neurologic, and musculoskeletal exams to zoom in on creaky joints. We'll discuss how client questionnaires and low-stress handling can fit into your routine visits, and review common differential diagnoses for OA.

MEET THE SPEAKER
Kristin Kirkby Shaw
DVM, MS, PhD, DACVS, DACVSMR
Dr. Kristin Shaw is a small animal surgeon and rehabilitation specialist with specific interest in orthopedic surgery and osteoarthritis management. Kristin received her DVM, MS and PhD, and completed a small animal surgical residency at the University of Florida. She spent 2 years as a clinical instructor at the University of Florida followed by 9 years in specialty referral practice in Seattle. Kristin then spent 3 years as a full-time veterinary educator while working for Zoetis as a pain and arthritis specialist. In 2024 Kristin returned to clinical practice at Bedrock Veterinary Specialists in Cornelius, North Carolina. Kristin is past- president of the American Association of Rehabilitation Veterinarians and current President of the Veterinary Orthopedic Society. She is the founder of CARE (www.caninearthritis.org), a website dedicated to providing practical, evidence-based resources and tools for pet parents and veterinary professionals caring for dogs with osteoarthritis.
