Course Description

Degenerative valve disease is by far the most common cardiac disease in dogs, affecting more than 85% of pets over 13 years of age.

Thoracic radiographs are an obvious next step once a heart murmur develops, but if you're curious what the latest studies say about starting medication, this course is for you! Cardiologist Dr. Brianna Potter guides us through cardiac case examples, reviewing the tenets of staging mitral valve disease through radiographs alone (that's right, no echo!) and the pathophysiology that leads to congestive heart failure over time.

We'll cover important scoring tools, intervention timing, physical exam details, and current ACVIM guidelines for managing DMVD long-term.

Through this free IntroVet® On-Demand Course, you'll earn 1 hour of RACE Approved CE. Upon successfully passing the assessment (quiz), you'll receive an instantly downloadable CE Certificate via email.

This course is available at no cost thanks to sponsorship by Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health.

No echo? That's ok. You got this.

What you'll walk away with

Skills you can put to work right away

  • Feel confident making treatment decisions for degenerative mitral valve disease based on radiographs and physical exam findings alone
  • Once MVD is diagnosed, choose the right drug, the right dose, and the right time to begin treatment
  • Practice measuring vertebral heart score and vertebral left atrial score with radiograph case rounds!
