Course Description

There's nothing quite like the feline-human bond.

From witchcraft accusations to worship, cats have made an indelible mark on humanity for hundreds of years, and in this age, they're our well-loved companions. Join anthrozoologist Dr. Patrick Flynn as we review how the roles of the modern cat have changed.

We'll start with a review of domestication milestones and then take a peek at the current social media landscape as it continues to showcase cat-forward care. We'll end on preventive strategies to catch chronic illnesses like osteoarthritis and chronic kidney disease before they take their toll. This quick, 40-minute session is for the feline fans who don't hiss at history!

Through this free IntroVet® On-Demand Course, you'll earn 0.5 hours of RACE Approved CE. Upon successfully passing the assessment (quiz), you'll receive an instantly downloadable CE Certificate via email.

This course is available at no cost thanks to sponsorship by Zoetis.

Dr. Flynn is the managing professional services veterinarian for the Western Florida Zoetis team. He received his veterinary degree from the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine in 1994 and practiced companion animal medicine and surgery for 13 years before joining then Pfizer, now Zoetis in 2006.

His passion and curiosity for the scientific study of the role other animals play in our life (and vice versa) led him to Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y. where, in 2019, he completed a Master of Science in Anthrozoology (the study of human/animal interactions) and is one of very few veterinarians with this qualification. Additionally, he is the President of the Human Animal Bond Association, HAB certified through NAVC Institute and a Certified Compassion Fatigue Professional. In 2024, his short story about meeting Dr. Jane Goodall for the first time was published in a book by Marc Bekoff produced for her 90th birthday

★★★★★

It was refreshing to have something so different from traditional medical and pharmacological content.

★★★★★

Dr. Flynn's presentation was my favorite part of the day! It was so enjoyable to have an hour of information devoted to cats, and the way it was presented. I wish more CE events were open to a bit of the history of the evolution, domestication, and welfare and caretaking of the species we treat. It was fresh, and Dr. Flynn is a great presenter.
